At Village Development Centre (VDC), we recognize the importance of empowering adolescent girls with knowledge about health, sanitation, and water-related issues. With the invaluable support of the OTF International Assistance Committee in Canada, we conducted a seminar tailored for 200 girl students. This educational event took place on March 30, 2016, at the Manachanallur Government Girls Higher Secondary School, making a significant impact on the lives of these young girls.
Expert Guidance: Dr.Vandana, from Dr.Palanivelu's Clinic in Manachanallur, was our esteemed guest speaker. She shared her expertise on general health, waterborne diseases, the adverse effects of open sanitation practices, and effective disease prevention methods. Her insights were not only enlightening but also immensely valuable for the girls' overall well-being.
Dr.Vandana explained both preventive and remedial measures, ensuring that the girls were equipped with the knowledge needed to take charge of their health and make informed decisions.
As part of our commitment to enhancing education, VDC distributed informative hand-outs, enabling the girls to reinforce their understanding of the topics covered during the seminar.
Recognizing the importance of menstrual health and hygiene, VDC provided free sanitary napkins to the girls. This initiative aimed to ensure that they have access to the necessary resources to manage their menstrual health with dignity and confidence.
In our ongoing commitment to holistic well-being, VDC implemented another project in which we focused on the cultivation and consumption of Muringa in four villages. In 2021, we cultivated a remarkable 500 Muringa plants. This project aimed to promote the consumption of this highly nutritious vegetable, enriching the diets and overall health of the communities we serve.
At VDC, we firmly believe that educating and empowering young girls is an investment in the future. Through initiatives like these, we equip them with the knowledge and resources they need to lead healthier, happier lives and become active participants in their communities.
