Since 1995, Village Development Centre (VDC) has been at the forefront of a relentless mission to eradicate the scourge of child labour from our project area. Under the National Child Labour Elimination Program (NCLP), Government of India, we have taken substantial steps towards rescuing young souls from the clutches of child labour and nurturing their dreams of education and a brighter future.
For over 18 years, we have steadfastly worked to address the issue of child labour by running schools in multiple villages, including Thirupanjeli, Manachanallur, Sengulipatty, Sirugambur, Srirangam, Valmalpalayam Melur and Keelur, all located in the Manachanallur block. Our legacy is one of dedication to the cause of child rights and a commitment to restoring the stolen childhoods of thousands.
Through our concerted efforts, we have successfully enrolled over 1500 child labourers into regular schools. These young minds, once trapped in the cycle of labour, have been given the gift of education and a chance to break free from the shackles of exploitation.
Our commitment to these children doesn't end with their primary education. Those who have completed high school have received support from NCLP to pursue higher studies, thereby opening doors to better opportunities and a brighter future.
To further our mission, we established a residential school in Sengulipatti village, providing a safe and nurturing environment for children to learn, grow, and dream without fear. The NCLP has been instrumental in this endeavour, providing essential support such as midday meals, monthly health check-ups, school uniforms, notebooks, study materials, and monthly stipends to our students.
At VDC, we firmly believe that every child deserves a childhood filled with dreams and possibilities, free from the burden of labour. Our tireless efforts in the fight against child labour continue to create opportunities for these young souls to reclaim their innocence, pursue their education, and build a brighter future.
