In February 2016, Village Development Centre (VDC) embarked on a mission to empower women by imparting skills in Jute Bag Making. This initiative, held at Thillampatty village, aimed to not only enhance the livelihood opportunities for women but also promote sustainable practices through the use of eco-friendly materials.
The training was conducted by Mr. D. Anandhaeaswarn, an expert in jute bag making and a representative of Rajasri Skill Academy, Tiruchirappalli. His extensive knowledge and guidance were instrumental in ensuring the success of this program.
During the training, participants received comprehensive information on jute materials, including their availability, varieties, market rates, and colour options. Understanding the nuances of jute, such as its printing quality and suitable cutting methods, was an essential aspect of the training.
The women enthusiastically delved into the art of jute bag making, learning to create bags of various sizes. They explored different designs and techniques, enhancing their creative abilities and product quality.
One of the primary goals of this program was to promote sustainability. By using jute, an eco-friendly material, the participants were not only enhancing their livelihoods but also contributing to the environment by reducing the use of plastic bags.
The main achievement of this training program was the empowerment of the women participants through knowledge acquisition. Armed with the skills and understanding of jute bag production, many of them ventured into production themselves.
By learning a valuable skill and gaining insights into market dynamics, these women were on their way to economic independence. They had the potential to establish their own jute bag-making enterprises, providing sustainable income for themselves and their families.
While not every participant may have pursued jute bag making as a livelihood, the knowledge gained during the training became a valuable asset. Even if a few ventured into production, they played a role in promoting eco-consciousness and sustainable living within their communities.
At VDC, we believe that empowerment through skill development is a transformative journey. This initiative was a step towards self-reliance, sustainability, and economic growth for the women involved. We are committed to continuing our efforts in empowering individuals and communities, one skill at a time.
