Empowering Women Through Skill Development: USHA Silai School

At Village Development Centre (VDC), we are committed to empowering women by providing them with the skills and knowledge they need to enhance their lives and contribute to their families and communities. One such initiative that has made a significant impact is our collaboration with USHA International through the USHA Silai School program, sponsored by the Native Medicare Charitable Trust (NMCT), Coimbatore.

Tailoring Skills for a Brighter Future

In February 2016, VDC organized a 7-day skill development training program on tailoring in Manachanallur. The aim was to empower women with valuable tailoring skills that would not only boost their self-esteem but also provide them with a means of livelihood.

USHA International's Support

USHA International, a renowned name in the sewing machine industry, played a pivotal role in this endeavour. They provided the training team and essential resources to ensure the success of the program.

Comprehensive Training

During the training, 20 women were taught various aspects of tailoring, including machine mechanism, repair and maintenance, replacing parts, and stitching a range of garments such as blouses, chudidhars, nightwear, and children's clothing. Hand embroidery techniques were also part of the curriculum.

Dedicated Instructor

The training was conducted by the skilled and dedicated instructor, Ms.MeenaKumari, from Madurai. Her expertise and guidance were instrumental in helping the participants gain confidence and proficiency in tailoring.

Providing Tools for Success

USHA International's support extended beyond training. They generously provided each of the 20 trained women with a free sewing machine, a valuable asset that would enable them to put their newly acquired skills to use effectively.

Sustainability Through Follow-Up

At VDC, we believe in the sustainability of our initiatives. To ensure that the women continued to thrive in their newfound skills, follow-up training sessions were organized to provide ongoing support and guidance.

A Heartfelt Thanks

We extend our heartfelt thanks to USHA International and the Native Medicare Charitable Trust (NMCT), Coimbatore, for their unwavering support in making this program a success. Together, we have empowered women to take control of their lives, build brighter futures, and contribute to the well-being of their families and communities.

Continuing the Journey of Empowerment

At VDC, we are committed to continuing our journey of empowerment, one skill development program at a time. We remain dedicated to providing women with the tools they need to transform their lives and create positive change in their communities. Through initiatives like the USHA Silai School, we are building a brighter and more inclusive future for all.
